Letter from the Recruitment Chair
Hi! Welcome to Augusta University!
My name is Kendall Newsome and I am Zeta Tau Alpha’s current Recruitment and Membership Enrichment Chair!
A little about me! I was born and raised in Augusta. It is my home and I love it with all of my heart. Choosing Augusta University was an easy decision for me just because of the unique community and small class size. I knew I wanted hands-on learning and easy networking opportunities and Augusta offered just that. I am currently a rising junior Business Administration major with a concentration in Digital Marketing! I love all things fashion and social media. My dream is to one day open my own boutique right here in Augusta!
Now, enough about me! Let's talk about Greek Life! Coming into college can be overwhelming, but you don't have to tackle it alone. Being a part of Greek Life opens doors for you to explore endless opportunities and make lifelong friends along the way. Attending college in my hometown and living at home, I figured it would be tough to make friends. I knew for a fact coming into college that I wanted to find MY people. I longed for a community that would uplift me and be there for me no matter what. Joining a sorority allowed me to do just that. I decided to get out of my comfort zone and take advantage of all the amazing things this University has to offer. The size of Augusta University is very beneficial to our Greek life as it fosters a tight knit sense of unity among all of our sisters. We are often seen intermingling or collaborating with other Greek sisterhoods to promote common causes and benefit our school, all the while getting to know each other and develop friendships that go far beyond sororities and the college experience.
Our Chapter, Eta Mu, is a diverse, hard working, and encouraging group of young women who strive for academic excellence, raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer and volunteer in our local community. Our philanthropy means the world to us! We host different events throughout the year with my favorite being Pink Week where we designate a week in October to table and raise awareness for an amazing cause. Big Man on Campus and Miracle Mile are just a few of my other favorites that I look forward to every year! Our members also make an effort to get involved in the local community and volunteer at numerous events, with the school and even with other organizations on campus as well.
It may sound cliche, but to me Zeta Tau Alpha is home. It's full of sisterhood, love and friendship. Surrounding myself with such a strong group of women who I aspire to be like every single day fills my life with so much joy. I have learned so much about myself just from being a part of this sorority. I chose to live in the moment and never take a second for granted. Each time I am with these ladies, whether it’s chapter, sisterhood events or just a casual Friday night, I am the best version of myself. They allow me to be ME. I don’t have to be someone I’m not. They truly accept me as I am which I cannot be anymore thankful for. All the late night phone calls, study sessions, and endless laughs wouldn't be if I didn't make the decision to choose Greek Life. These girls are there for me, share my passions and dreams, and even help me reach my goals. I can confidently say I understand why “Zeta is Forever.” I cherish these people and ZTA everyday.
